For Sale / Wanted

This free for all is where members can advertise their surplus or shortfall.

You can post pretty much anything, it doesn't have to be MZ-related but please, no porn, guns, foodstuffs, drugs, timeshares, pirate software, etc. Just like ebay really. It would probably be useful to put whether you are selling something or looking for it in the title (e.g. WTD: or FS: ).

251 bits wanted

by neil pardoe.

Hi, Trying to get my ratty 251 back on the road for as little as possible, also it would look silly with any shiny bits on as there isn't a shiny thing on it anywhere.

Looking for front and rear indicators, there's nothing at all at the mo'

flasher unit

tacho drive cable + rubber housing for tacho

possibly front brake lever and assembly. Mine works fine but one of the screws holding the top of the reservoir had snapped and I can't get the bugger out.

Cheers for looking

Neil (West Cornwall)

choke lever assembly

by neil pardoe.

Just bought a new choke cable, off Fred Rogers, and can't see how it all goes together. Got a new part that must hold the choke lever but can't see how it fits. No exploded pic in the manual. Could anyone explain?

Thanks

Neil

Getting there.

by MAC MCCARTHEY.
Hi guys,
For the past two weeks I have spent almost every evening working on the ETZ. The loom was found to be frayed and burnt under the seat.
And the throttle cable was stuck due rust, the lights and indicators had gone AWOL but a soldering iron and new wire has restored them plus a little beeping thing which goes off with the indicators.

Removing the throttle cable and oiling sorted that job out.

I poured some petroil into the tank and the carb flooded, so removed the carb and cleaned it out and reset the float hight, a new fuel hose replaced the cracked pipe.

The front headlight bulb was replaced with an upgrade from Halfords (no relay needed) The rear light reflector was augmented by fitting Baco silver foil ( an old trick learned from running old scooters ) now much brighter.

Under the seat has been isolated with a thin strip of rubber, as once fitted to my VW Beetle to stop the rear seat cutting the loom or touching the battery which could ignite the car seat. (toasty)

I also fitted some rubber to the inside of the LHS side panel to isolated it from touching the fuse box terminals as per VW and to stop vibration rattles.

The rear drum was rusted and the shoes sticking on the drum, so they were stripped and cleaned, the rear brake rod snapped. !!!

On close inspection I found It had been rubbing for some time against the rear wheel spacer block that serves as part of the rear side stand mount ( check yours).

The rear light switch was kippered so was repaired before re fitting a rear drive sprocket, new drive chain and another brake rod.

The ignition spark is now all sorted having timed it up and fitted new points and condenser. All that's left to do is adjust the clutch and buy a new exhaust system and fit it.

I was tempted to put the old exhaust back on while I get a new one, so I could at least hear the ETZ running. But inspection found not only is it very rusty but its chock full of coke and not worth messing about with.

Still not actually ridden an MZ yet but getting there.

greased lightning

by MAC MCCARTHEY.
After taking out the dead ETZ engine and cleaning it off it was over to Mr Ts' to assess and break the engine down. I have never seen an engine get pulled apart so quickly with just a biro and a soft polo mint, awesome,"greased lightening".
Thankfully we found the crankcases, clutch, gearbox and electrics all in very good order, but alas the crank was good but the con rod was not.

Phil had bought an ETZ engine which was covered in grime and was very stiff to turn over, having seen the damage my engine had it was decided I buy Phil's engine and use what we could.

The spare engine had been bought by Phil condition unknown, so just a cylinder and a head would have been good.

As it turned out the engine had been completely rebuilt !!!. The engine internally was pristine, but the stiffness in turning it over was down to a cir clip being fitted in the wrong place which blanked off the oil feed to the main bearings and this in turn had damaged the mains hence the reluctance to turn over.

So an order has gone in for a full set of bearings and gaskets and a new biro.

Having seen how the MZ engine comes apart I can say how impressed I was, it is a sturdy and simple engine.

Thanks very much to Nigel and Phil for the master class and the engine,

the ETZ will be back on the road very soon.

Ps, thanks to Nigel's Mrs for the bacon sandwich.
